Alan, (DJ Nutrocker) and Suzanne started running the 55 Jive Rock 'n' Roll club at the Fox & Hounds, Fremington, North Devon in February 2003 but have now outgrown this venue.

On 18th February 2005 we moved to a bigger and better venue 'The Robin's Nest', Bideford AFC, Bideford, North Devon. It has a nice sized wooden dance floor and comfortably holds about 70 people. It's a self contained unit, has its own bar and the drinks are cheap (what a bonus).

How ironic though that this football club has a mascot; someone on the home games dresses up as a robin and dances around the pitch to Bobby Day's version of 'Rockin' Robin'. Quality!!

Before moving to North Devon from Gloucester, Alan used to spin the discs at 'The Rockin' Fifties' club at The Victoria Inn, Eastington, near Stonehouse after the club had moved from 'The Bell Inn' at Stroud (well known in Gloucester and surrounding areas).

There were two local bands around at the time; 'The Rebounds' and 'The Crepes & Drapes' who played good old 50s rock 'n' roll. The very first band Alan ever saw were 'Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers', ( they were just getting started) and they blew him away. He bought their first single 'Teddy Boy Boogie'. "Blimey" he says, that takes us back a bit! He's still got the original plus a few others since then.

As there didn't appear to be a proper Rock 'n' Roll club in Barnstaple, Alan & Suzanne decided to rectify this and formed the 55 JIVE ROCK 'n' ROLL club. A special mention must go to Jackie, John, Pat, Tim and Les who without their help would not have made this posible. The club meets regularly on Friday nights.

It's only a small club that regularly attracts around 30 on a quiet night but can vary up to 50 or more. There's a great atmosphere, they are a really friendly bunch and anyone visiting the club can expect a very warm Devon welcome.

Bideford is very close to most of the North Devon coast and it has easy access for holiday makers. If you're ever down that way and in need of a serious injection of Rock 'n' Roll after chillin' out all day on one of the fantastic beaches down here, then drop in and say 'Hello' to Alan, Suzanne and all at the '55 Jive Rock 'n' Roll' club.
